The Jumpsuit.............

In 1919, the designer Thayaht invented the multifunctional, all-in-one, what he called 'TuTa.'  Sportsmen, particularly skydivers loved it - thereafter becoming known as the 'jumpsuit.'  During WWII the designer Elsa Schiaparelli designed a version for women to wear to bomb shelters and to work in factories.  Pucci designed a version for the ski slopes and performers such as Elvis and David Bowie performed in them.  In 1960 when Irene Galitzine, a princess designer, designed her version for high society (Sofia Loren, Liz Taylor and Jackie Kennedy) the jumpsuit became a fashion statement.

Jumpsuits now dominate the runways for Spring/Summer 2014.  Celebrities and models alike have adopted it and it has made Carine Roitfeld's (former editor-in-chief of Paris Vogue) edited list of What's New for 2014.
