Henri Cartier-Bresson, Here and Now by Clement Cheroux |
Henri Cartier-Bresson was a French photographer and considered to be the father of photojournalism. He helped develop "street" or "life reportage" style of photography.
In 1930, after seeing a picture of three young African boys running into the surf, Henri Cartier-Bresson acquired a Leica camera and took up photography seriously. That picture, to Henri, captured freedom, grace and spontaneity of movement and joy of being alive.
"I couldn't believe such a thing could be caught with the camera." "I took my camera and went out into the street." "I suddenly understood that a photograph could fix eternity in an instant." - Cartier-Bresson
Most of you will no doubt recognize some of
Cartier-Bresson more famous pictures (which are included in this book) but there are over 500 images and some rare and unpublished works are included as well. The book also contains family albums, portraits of Carter-Bresson, early paintings (he started his artistic career as a painter), late drawings and collages.
