Yves Saint Laurent...........
I am eagerly awaiting the release (26 June) of the new Yves Saint Laurent movie by Jalil Lespert.......
I read The Beautiful Fall, by Alicia Drake many years ago about the beginning of Yves Saint Laurent's and Karl Lagerfeld's fashion careers, their friendship and ultimately their high profile fallout, all in the backdrop of Paris in the 1970's. I have also seen L'Amour Fou, the documentary of YSL's and his partner of 50 years, Pierre Berge's business and personal relationship, their various homes around the world and their famous art collections - pre-Sotheby's "Sale of the Century." The book, The Private World of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge showcases the interiors and art of their many homes - particularly the apartment on the Left Bank in Paris.
Pierre Berge still runs the
YSL Foundation and has stated "that defending the image of the
House of Yves Saint Laurent was the most important thing" with regard to this movie, as was also the case for
Dior (
YSL was appointed head couturier of
Dior at the age of 21). In many of the fashion scenes in the movie, the garments are the original costume pieces from
YSL and
Dior fashion shows - of which the
YSL Foundation holds 8,000 outfits created by the designer.
Pierre Berge also allowed the movie to film in
Saint Laurent's untouched Paris studio and in their house in Morocco.
